What to expect: Inspired by Art Deco boutique hotels in Miami's South Beach, the San Juan Water and Beach Club Hotel attracts couples with its sleek design elements such as waterfall walls in the lobby, hallways, and elevators, and an unabashed romantic ambience. The small, limestone-floor lobby sets the tone with frosted glass, a violet-lighted ceiling, two-story white sheer curtains, and an acrylic waterfall wall. Chrome-door elevators offer clear-ceilinged views of mechanical workings illuminated by blue fluorescent lights.
Amenity highlights: On the roof are a bar/lounge/sushi bar named Wet and a 20-by-10-foot rooftop pool. Adjacent to the pool are lounge chairs and a white-vinyl lounging bed measuring 12 by 10 feet. The rooftop provides panoramic ocean and city views. Isla Verde beach, a two-mile stretch of light-golden sand washed by gentle Atlantic Ocean surf, lies across the dead end of a short, low-traffic street in front of the hotel. With its numerous, oversized, white-vinyl lounging beds, candlelight, and intimate seating, the rooftop bar, Wet, becomes the hotel's romantic destination after dark.
